Description
This bear carving was done by my husband, Steve, and me as a special Christmas gift for our son and daughter-in-law. We carved it from our century old backyard willow tree that came down in a storm last year. Because our son used to play in this willow tree as a child, building a treehouse with his friends, and we are planning on moving soon, we thought this would be a nice remembrance of home and a meaningful gift from our hearts.
This was our second bear carving. Steve did all the main preliminary cuts with his big chainsaw and I did the detailed ones with a small chainsaw. We used a grinder, drummel tool and my dad's carving chisels for facial details. It is so heavy, it can barely be lifted by two people. We stained the bear and sealed it for outside protection from the weather but our son and daughter-in-law decided to keep this 46" high willow tree bear in their front entrance foyer to welcome visitors.
